Lime powder. Sensitive to wet. When red sublimation. Almost insoluble in water, ethanol, acetone, ethyl acetate, acetic anhydride, glacial acetic acid, toluene, carbon tetrachloride, chloroform, carbon disulfide. Sodium hydroxide solution in the black. Aqueous solution is reducing. Relative density 3.363. Melting point of about 1406 ℃. Toxic. Corrosive. Green crystal. Trigonal system, three bismuth iodide structure, space group R3c - D3d6, lattice constant α = 0.5373 nm. Heating of direct sublimation, 1406 ℃ decomposition. Density 3.36 g/cm3 (19 ℃). Magnetic, stable in the air (not oxidation). Insoluble in ordinary organic solvents, almost insoluble in water. Easy to generate polymer. 200 ℃ by vanadium metal direct fluorination, or 6000 ℃ by hydrogen fluoride gas and three vanadium chloride from reaction. Used in organic synthesis.

USES :
