Asphalt glossy dark grey crystal. Melting point 1070 ℃. Sphalerite structure, under normal temperature bandwidth (Eg = 1.35 eV) melting point from under release 2.75 MPa. Very slightly soluble in mineral acids. Dielectric constant of 10.8. Electron mobility 4600 cm2 / (V · s). Hole mobility 150 cm2 / (V · s). Has the characteristics of the semiconductor.

Used as a semiconductor materials, used in optical fiber communication technology.
